If you want to better understand the metal-processing industry today, it helps to explore some of the unique challenges experienced by actual companies. Let’s look at a few examples.
Equipment That Feeds Both Bar Stock and Coil Stock
Recently one of our customers required equipment to feed both bar stock (which was 5/8” thick) and coil stock (which was ¼” thick) into a press. Press Room Equipment was able to design a feed that accommodated the full range of product. In fact, we were the only company our customer could find who could accomplish this tricky task. The final solution eliminated the need for an employee to hand-feed the heavy parts into the press, which increased speed as well as safety. Our team was able to greatly exceed the customer’s expectations.
Cut-to-Length Projects
At Press Room Equipment, we work on many cut-to-length projects with our customers. The focus on these projects is to eliminate double movement or double handling of the material. In many cases, we can look at the customer’s whole procedure, from start to finish, and cut several processes out. For example, we may be able to feed the material into a cut-to-length machine, where we can punch holes, cut the part off, and then transport the cut part down to the next machine. This eliminates several hand processes and also eliminates the need for an employee to physically move the part from one machine to another.
Eliminating Processes, Adding Automation
Many of our customers are at capacity when it comes to their machines or the physical space in their manufacturing plants. If we can help make these processes more efficient, not only will we eliminate labor, but also we can eliminate the need to expand the plant (a costly endeavor) and the need to buy additional press lines. The current trend is to increase automation, which allows companies to do more work with less people and less space.
Safety Solutions
Recently a customer called Press Room Equipment with a problem: he had a standard servo feed in his facility, and he needed a custom guard for it. Instead of simply solving the problem, we delved deep because we knew there was a key reason why he was asking for this guard.
We learned that the customer was a safety director who had been tasked with thoroughly inspecting a company’s operations and ensuring that its employees worked in a truly safe environment that met or exceeded OSHA requirements. After talking through the problem, a Press Room Equipment employee visited the man’s facility and took a tour of all his departments. This employee was able to identify additional problems and loopholes at the facility, mainly from a safety perspective. In doing so, not only was he able to help the customer take care of the custom part that he needed, but also he was able to offer solutions for issues in other departments.
