IPPE is just around the corner!
The International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) used to be known in the industry as the “chicken show” due to its primary focus on everything poultry processing.
Today, the event still centers around poultry processing, but it also includes beef and pork processing.
From the birthing of the animal to processing to packaging, IPPE features hundreds of vendors with solutions to help every step of your process.
There are so many vendors that newcomers and seasoned show vets alike can feel overwhelmed. But it doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
Instead, IPPE is a great time to browse all the major protein processing vendors under one roof while also networking with other industry professionals. If you really want to make the most of the show, the first thing you need to do before you even enter the building is make a plan.
IPPE offers a great website for first-time attendees. It provides information on the Center’s cash-free policy, links to guides and presentations and more. It even provides a planning tool for attendees to create a digital agenda.
In addition, EnSight consultants with many years of show experience offer additional planning advice that applies to rookie and seasoned IPPE attendees.

Define Your Goal
Second, make a goal. Are you actively shopping? If you want to have in-depth discussions, we recommend contacting the companies you’re interested in BEFORE the show. Set up a specific time during the show to meet. This way, you don’t have to wait on other attendees or risk missing the specific person you’re seeking altogether. Many exhibitors will gladly set aside time to meet with you during or after show hours. If you have a specific solution you need, relay that to your contact when setting up the meeting. This will help them prepare and make sure they’re ready to help.
If you’re “just looking,” plan anyway. IPPE is a huge event that covers multiple halls. Without a plan or at least a map, you can quickly lose time in an area that doesn’t apply to your organization.
When planning, make sure you consider events that might take place outside of the event. Some exhibitors host special dinners, happy hours, etc., that are free to attend and provide great networking opportunities. You can usually ask the exhibitor at IPPE about any such events if you don’t receive information beforehand.
Take Notes
At the show, take notes. There are hundreds of exhibitors, so it will be hard to remember who you talked to and who you’d like to have future conversations with. If you’re interested in talking to an exhibitor more after the show is over, tell them you’d like to set up a call. If they can, go ahead and book it. When the Expo ends, exhibitors will receive a list containing hundreds of leads. If you make an appointment, you won’t have to wait to follow up.
Labor is likely to be a big focus of this year’s event. If you’re like other processors, you are always looking for ways to run more efficiently. IPPE is a great place to browse solutions and discuss ways to overcome your challenge.
